What is Ayurveda? | The Forge

The Forge Corwen

Ayurveda - The science of life, is a 5000 year old health system, originating in India. Nearly everyone will have heard of Ayurveda’s very popular sister science - Yoga, but Ayurveda was often overlooked. However, it is making a huge comeback, not just in India but in the West too.

Ayurveda takes a complete, holistic view of healing. Focusing on the mind-body connection, this is done through food, lifestyle, therapies, herbal medications, Yoga, Meditation and Pranayama (breath work). It also teaches us to live with nature, eat seasonally and immerse into the 5 elements, Fire, Water, Air, Earth and Space. The Forge is naturally in tune with Ayurveda, from the moment you step out of your car and take a breath, the mind starts to relax. Your surrounded by nature, you hear it, see it, smell it. The senses start to wake up. We start to realign with nature and the circadian rhythm, waking when its light, sleeping when it goes dark.

Ayurveda covers every aspect of life, the seasons, time of day, what to eat and when, when to move and when to be still. This creates harmony between the mind-body and your environment, once the mind-body is in harmony, the body starts to return to a state of balance and therefore, health.

Here at The Forge, we live by the seasons, whether that is through the food that is grown or the swim pond is a balmy 22 degrees or a very cold 0! It’s incredible to watch the space move through the seasons, from the leaves on the trees, everything in bloom, the wild meadows swaying in the breeze, the sound of birds everywhere through to the cold, dark winter months when quiet descends as the birds have flown, the trees are bare, the ground is wet, yet there is a beauty in the stillness that often makes me stop and take a breath.

The Forge is the perfect place to start to find your balance.
