Amazing activity adventures in North Wales | The Forge

The Forge Corwen

Are you looking for thrills and spills this summer? Forget New Zealand, North Wales has it all!

With the summer holidays rapidly approaching perhaps you are looking for something a bit different, something to really take your breath away, perhaps blow your mind! Well for any adrenaline junkies out there, North Wales really has some world class adventure activities that can do this and more! Often described as a mini-New Zealand ranked number four by Lonely Planet in the top places to visit in the world in 2016, we like to think that our little part of the world really is unique. After all where else can you climb to over 1000 metres in the morning and be on the beach eating the freshest seafood for lunch.

If all that has whetted your appetite for more, here are our top five adventure itineraries, all within 90 minutes’ drive of The Forge…

  1. Zip World
  2. Stand Up Paddleboarding
  3. One Planet Adventure
  4. Surf Snowdonia
  5. White Water Active

The world’s biggest zip wire is not for the faint-hearted. Strapped onto a wire, pointing head first into a disused slate quarry before hurtling at more than 100mph downhill is quite possibly one the closest ways you’ll get to not just flying, but diving like a peregrine falcon! Oh, and did we mention the views? Spectacular coastline all the way over to the Isle of Anglesey make this an unforgettable, once in a lifetime experience. Try spotting the restaurant in Menai Bridge where you’ll enjoy an amazing seafood lunch once you’ve finally come back down to earth.

Looking for something a little different that the whole family can enjoy - even the dog?! Stand up paddle-boarding is an exhilarating adventure sport suitable for all ages and abilities. It's also the perfect way to enjoy the spectacular scenery of North East Wales, as you pootle up the Llangollen canal or tackle the might River Dee, if you are feeling brave enough! You can even choose from one of the many great pubs along the way for refreshments after as you paddle past!

If mountain biking is more your scene, One Planet Adventure in Llandegla forest is just a 10 minute drive from The Forge and offers some of the best trails anywhere in the country. Set in a huge forest and with a spectacular network of colour coded trails to follow, there is something to suit everyone from beginners to semi-pros. You are also welcome to walk or run around the forest and take in the amazing views from the reservoir. There’s an onsite restaurant which has fantastic barbecue nights every Wednesday during the summer.

The world’s first inland surfing lake is less than an hour from us. Wow. You can don your wet suit, grab your surf board and, with the Beach Boys soundtrack playing on a loop in your head, you are guaranteed to catch some waves. There are instructors on hand for all abilities plus a fun, Gladiator style water course for you to tackle if you need a bit of healthy competition in your life. Oh, and the pizzas in the bar bistro are to die for!

And if you want to spend even more time in the water, our good buddies at White Water Active in Llangollen certainly know how to show you a good time. As well as white water rafting and gorging walking, they also offer the slightly less well-known activities of river bugging and canyoning. Sounds fun right?! But if that all seems a bit too energetic, you can take a slightly more relaxing and sedate open canoe over the world heritage listed aqueduct in Pontcysyllte for the most amazing views. However, it’s best avoided if you suffer badly from vertigo!!!

Who knew that there could be so much packed into such a seemingly small place?! Come and stay with us and book yourselves in for one of these amazing days out. And don’t worry, we’ll have steaming hot showers, a cool box full of cold beers and warm cosy beds waiting for your return!
