We often get asked why this tent is called Liberty and it is perhaps not for the reasons you would think…
Contrary to what some people may think we did not name Liberty after a riff on the iconic symbol of American Independence! In fact, it is named after Liberty Hall which you can see from the balcony, in keeping with all of our spaces, which are named after their different views. Liberty Hall was built as a shooting lodge in the early 20th century and sits at 591m (1934ft) at the top of grouse moorland. During World War 2 it was used as a look out for the home guard and when you get up there you can see why! Far reaching views over Snowdonia, the Dee Valley and as far away as Shropshire and the North Wales coast. You can walk the 7km to the top from The Forge, returning via the old railway line from Cynwyd of back via Corwen for a cheeky ice cream!
Liberty is our most accessible tent with a very low platform with no steps that makes it perfect for babies and very small children, or for those with limited mobility. It is also located the closest to the showers and car park. Little ones might also like to make use of the unique, hand-crafted chestnut pole balcony, which we constructed from our own woodland, to pull themselves up and practice walking. They also make the perfect lead-holders for dogs!
Liberty is also the ideal tent if you like are very keen on farm animals and wildlife as it backs onto the next-door farmer’s field, where you will often be paid a visit from the very friendly cows in the evening, as they come over to the large pond for a drink and to say hello over the gate. If you are lucky you might also see our resident heron, lovingly named ‘Gordon’ by the children, and we occasionally spot kingfishers (which inspired the colour scheme of our logo and branding!).
As with all our tents, Liberty has real beds, crisp white linen, carpets and lots of blankets and cushions as well as a log burner to keep you cosy. Plus, a well-equipped camp kitchen with gas stove, running water and a cool box. The fire circle area is the most open and flat of all of our tents, making it perfect for little legs who might want to wander about, letting the grown-ups easily keep an eye on them whilst relaxing by the campfire.
Our verdict: Best for families with very small children, animal-lovers and dog owners plus anyone who needs step-free accessible accommodation with close proximity to the showers and car park.
